Career 101: Is Coffee Killing Your Career?

Today, I had 12 cups of coffee! Seriously, yes. Most people in the world today and more so the corporate world are heavily reliant on coffee. They have grown habit of not only loving coffee but they depend on it entirely to start their days. The heavy reliance comes as no surprise since caffeine effects on the human brains focus and alertness have made people more productive. Most people who use coffee say that after that cup of coffee in the morning, they feel energized as well as motivated which is a very great thing for your career especially if you are entrepreneur as you need to find all the tactics to be ahead of the competition. While one cannot dispute the many benefits coffee has on our body and to a certain extent the economy, excessive coffee consumption can be detrimental to the entrepreneur’s career.

Lack of sleep

Many entrepreneurs have once or twice burned the mid-night oil just to finish up an important project. This will mostly happen when the said entrepreneur is not afraid of spending the whole night working just because they have a cup of coffee next to them. When morning comes they aren’t afraid of going to working fearing they will sleep through the day because they will have their daily cup of coffee in the morning. Chances are this will happen more than once to an entrepreneur who is a coffee drinker because they know that coffee has the effects to make them feel more alert even without having sleep. The human body needs time to rest on a daily basis and by depriving one’s self of sleep it come be really detrimental in the person’s long term health. That person who often fails to sleep can develop long-term physical and mental health concerns.

Don’t Fuel on Insomnia

Today the word insomnia has become really common especially in the business world. This is because of the high amount of people taking coffee to sustain their rigorous working schedule and for entrepreneurs it is about trying to get a number of projects done in time. By constant taking of coffee through the day so that one can stay alert and not risk losing out on clients and be able to complete their projects in time most of these people end up developing insomnia. By drinking too much caffeine the body will adjust to being used to stay awake that if at some point one tries to get to sleep they will find it hard because the body is used to being awake.

Does it take away the money saved otherwise?

Most people will argue, and rightly so that money is not everything. But, coming to think of it, money is the reason we wake up early in the morning and go to work every single day. If for certain individual who is a coffee drinker ends up blowing a lot of the finances they earn on coffee it ends up defeating the purpose of going to work. Most of the entrepreneurs will spend up to $30 on a cup of coffee; add that to the fact that they spend that much on a daily basis on single cup of coffee in the morning alone. That amounts to up to thousands being spent on coffee alone in a single year which would have been saved to grow your business or any other basic need.

Too much of everything is poisonous as the saying goes and when it comes to coffee it is not any different. Coffee itself isn’t the problem and as we have seen can be a good friend to most entrepreneurs but most of them are the ones who end up misusing it and thus end up realizing the bad effects that it can have. A lesson to all the people who cherish their cup of coffee, use it well and when you can avoid taking coffee please do, don’t make it a habit of daily consumption of coffee.

Now, I am going to get one more cup! No, seriously please.
